Baby Klein at 31 Weeks

This week, our baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's moving a lot, too, so I may sometimes experience trouble sleeping because our baby's kicks and somersaults keep me up, but all this moving is a sign that our baby is active and healthy.

Progress

Ok, I'm officially big. To be exact, 172lbs big. (We started the pregnancy with 138lbs). Today, Dr. Hackmeyer lectured to me about a healthy weight gain. In little less than two weeks, I managed to gain awesome 4lbs and two weeks prior to that I gained 5lbs, whereas I should be gaining only about a pound a week. With our 9-week countdown, and provided that I manage to stick to a pound a week, this pushes me to a little over 40lbs total weight gain- about 10lbs over what I had in mind!!! Other than that, Baby Boy Klein is doing well- he's big and quite a kicker. His heartbeat is strong and perfect. We still measure big (that extra weight must go somewhere, right??!) at 33cm instead of 31cm.

So here's our New Years Resolution: Eat Healthy! Both Sam and I are off to starting the New Year with salads and grilled chicken breasts- no more empty carbs! At least our Le Creuset skillet will get some use now :o)

Happy 6th Anniversary To Us!

Plus, as we gushed yesterday, we officially started the "10-week-countdown"! We are SO excited that we thought we ought to mention it one more time!

Baby Klein at 30 Weeks

Our baby is about 15.7 inches long now, and he weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him, but that volume will decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room in my uterus. His eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after he's born, he'll keep his eyes closed for a good part of the day. When he does open them, he'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means he can only make out objects a few inches from his face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

70 days to go...!!!

December 23rd

Every year, December 23rd marks an important date for us because it is our wedding anniversary. This year, however, it will be extra special since Baby Boy Klein will be 30 weeks old and we will have 70 days to go until he is here! Our last anniversary just as a family of two... A thought that both excites and frightens us at the same time!

Progress

We had our 29-week appointment today. After spending the better part of the past two weeks in a breech position, Baby Boy Klein decided that it's time to turn- good boy! He's kicking up a storm, which is great, and his heart beat was strong and perfect. I got the Rhogam shot, and depends on his blood type, I may need to get one more shot after birth. I gained awesome 27lbs so far- wow! Seems like he's holding on to everything I eat and no wonder we measure big (2cm bigger than we should)- he's a big boy!

We can't believe how fast time flies; our next appointment is scheduled for week 31. Even Dr. Hackmeyer was amazed at how fast we're nearing the last few weeks of the pregnancy. Our next appointment: 12.29.2010 at 9am. Can't wait to see how much I'll weigh then...

Baby Klein at 29 Weeks

Our baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, I'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, I'll need to drink milk (ew) (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in our baby's hardening skeleton each day.

The Nursery!

We finally agreed on and ordered our nursery furniture from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child. Everything in that store is sooo beautiful, so narrowing it down to what we really wanted was a serious problem that required some lengthy debates, consultation and input from possibly every single person whose opinion I cherish. In addition, according to Jewish tradition, we are not suppose to have anything baby-related in the house prior to delivery. We couldn't have been happier to learn today at the store that the nursery set we liked so much is not in stock. G-r-e-a-t news for us. They will have it available on 2/24/2011 and it will be delivered to us a week to two afterward, hence, perfect timing! We ordered the crib, the dresser with a changing topper, the bookcase and the toddler conversion kit from RH's Kenwood Collection:

Isn't it just gorgeous???!

Baby Klein at 28 Weeks- Third Trimester is Finally Here!!!

By this week, our baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through my womb. He's also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Baby Klein at 27 Weeks

This week, our baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with his legs extended. He's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, our baby's brain is very active now. While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if he were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother him, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
