Progress

Today's appointment with Dr. Hakcmeyer was essentially the "Delivery-Need-To-Know" talk. We discussed vaginal delivery vs. c-section as well as contractions and what to look out for. Because I still measure big (39cms instead of 36cms), on our next appointment, 2.14.2011, we will have an ultrasound to measure Baby Boy Klein in order to get a better idea of his size. If Baby Boy Klein reaches the 10lbs, we will probably opt for a c-section (recommended by Dr. H), as it will be better for both me and our little bundle of joy. Per Dr. H, our weight is, for a change, "perfect", with a total of 35lbs gained so far. Finally, our GBS test results came back negative. Woo-hoo! We are ready to rock 'n' roll.

Progress

We are tipping the scale at 175lbs, and I think Dr. Hackmeyer gave up on trying to keep me in checks at this point. I guess he figured that I can't do SO much damage with only 5 weeks left. Hahahaha... Today's appointment was fairly routine- we still measure big at 37cm rather than 35, but since that's been the case all along, there isn't a cause for concern. We heard Baby Boy Klein's heartbeat and did a Group B Strep Test (vaginal and rectal culture to check for bacteria)- not fun but gotta do it.

We are really starting the final countdown now with our weekly appointments! Next week, we are going to discuss our "exit strategy". LOL. We are both scared and excited!

Progress

Ok, I'm officially big. To be exact, 172lbs big. (We started the pregnancy with 138lbs). Today, Dr. Hackmeyer lectured to me about a healthy weight gain. In little less than two weeks, I managed to gain awesome 4lbs and two weeks prior to that I gained 5lbs, whereas I should be gaining only about a pound a week. With our 9-week countdown, and provided that I manage to stick to a pound a week, this pushes me to a little over 40lbs total weight gain- about 10lbs over what I had in mind!!! Other than that, Baby Boy Klein is doing well- he's big and quite a kicker. His heartbeat is strong and perfect. We still measure big (that extra weight must go somewhere, right??!) at 33cm instead of 31cm.

So here's our New Years Resolution: Eat Healthy! Both Sam and I are off to starting the New Year with salads and grilled chicken breasts- no more empty carbs! At least our Le Creuset skillet will get some use now :o)

Progress

We had our 29-week appointment today. After spending the better part of the past two weeks in a breech position, Baby Boy Klein decided that it's time to turn- good boy! He's kicking up a storm, which is great, and his heart beat was strong and perfect. I got the Rhogam shot, and depends on his blood type, I may need to get one more shot after birth. I gained awesome 27lbs so far- wow! Seems like he's holding on to everything I eat and no wonder we measure big (2cm bigger than we should)- he's a big boy!

We can't believe how fast time flies; our next appointment is scheduled for week 31. Even Dr. Hackmeyer was amazed at how fast we're nearing the last few weeks of the pregnancy. Our next appointment: 12.29.2010 at 9am. Can't wait to see how much I'll weigh then...

Progress

Today, Sam and I went to our 24-going-on-25-weeks routine doctor's appointment. Dr. Hackmeyer is happy with Baby Boy Klein's progress- we made some "serious growth spurt" in just 4 weeks, and we are measuring just a little ahead of time.

Weight-wise, I am normal- 160lbs, and Dr. Hackmeyer is expecting me to gain a total of 35lbs.

We discussed getting the Rhogam shot since my blood is Rh negative. This shot is directed against the Rh positive factor of the blood and is designed to prevent me from becoming sensitized to the baby's Rh positive blood. If I were to become sensitized to this Rh factor, there is a possibly that my immune system would destroy the red blood cells of our next baby and possibly this one, too. I still need to do my homework re this issue. From what I've read so far, I might be able to just have it available after delivery in case our baby is Rh positive.

Next appointment: 12.1.2010 at 9:15am- Glucose screening test and some more blood tests.

[Update: Just got an e-mail back from a relative who is the Chief of one of Israel's largest maternity wards. He won several awards for his research and inventions in Israel as well as internationally. Nice to have this pure genius handy when I have questions like these!). Anyhow, according to him, having the Rhogam shot at week 28 is very safe and very, very recommended. Pfew. That puts this issue to rest.]

Second Trimester Screening

Today's appointment was fairly straightforward: We heard very strong heartbeats, I had some blood drawn for my second trimester screening and, finally, I got the flu shot. Dr. Hackmeyer didn't even have to struggle to find Baby Klein's heartbeat; it was so strong and clear! Dr. Hackmeyer then commented about my growing bump ("can't hide it anymore!"). Everyone's happy!

Our next appointments are set for 10.20.10 at 9 a.m.. Dr. Bochner will conduct the detailed ultrasound, in which we will FINALLY find out Baby Klein's gender (woohoo!), and get a 3D look at our baby, ensuring that all systems are fine. Dr. Hackmeyer's appointment follows right after.

Fourth Look at Baby Klein

Today, daddy Sam couldn't come with me to see Dr. Hackmeyer. However, I had a very nice "backup"- Grandma Shula. We heard Baby Klein's heartbeat and, although we were not supposed to, we got an ultrasound view of Baby Klein! Dr. Hackmeyer is happy with Baby Klein's development. We are now officially done with all of our first trimester exams- everything came back perfect! Second trimester here we come!!!

In the first picture you can see our beautiful Baby Klein at 13 weeks, 6 days along. In the second picture, Baby Klein decided to cross his/her legs and chill.

Second Look at Baby Klein

Mom and Dad are extremely excited! Baby Klein is doing very well! During our second ultrasound, Baby Klein was happily dancing around. S/he later took a little break and put his/her hands right by his/her mouth! We were even able to hear Baby Klein's heartbeat using a stethoscope. Cutest. Baby. Ever.

The first two pictures show how Baby Klein has grown in just two weeks. The third picture is a view from the top- you can see his/her head and hands.

First Look at Baby Klein

We just came back from our first OB appointment with Dr. Paul Hackmeyer. We saw Baby Klein for the very first time and we even heard his/her heartbeat! We did every single blood work in the books (just because we're crazy like that) and Dr. Hackmeyer seemed very happy with Baby Klein's development so far. We are going back to get a more detailed ultrasound in two weeks (8.5.10), and we can't wait to see our baby again!
