Today, Sam and I went to have Baby Klein's nuchal fold prenatal scan. This scan helps Dr. Bochner to assess the risk of having Down syndrome, some other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems. The test uses an ultrasound to measure the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of our baby's neck. Babies with abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average.
Dr. Bochner was very happy with Baby Klein's scan result, although we are waiting for confirmation in 10 days. He said that Baby Klein looks like a "big, perfect & healthy boy(!)", but again, we still have to wait for a final gender confirmation, around weeks 17-20. Needless to say, Sam was extremely happy to hear Dr. Bochner's suspicions about Baby Klein's gender.
