Second Trimester Detailed Ultrasound- Fifth Look at Baby Boy Klein

Today, Sam, Grandma Shula and I went to see Dr. Bochner for Baby Klein's second trimester detailed scan. We found out that Baby Klein is a boy (he showed us the goods right away!) and Dr. Bochner was extremely happy with Baby Boy Klein's development- heart, lungs, liver, brain, kidneys, spine, ribs, facial features- all are "excellent". To me, this was the best news ever. Both Sam and Grandma Shula were VERY happy to hear that we are having a boy (Sam claims that he knew all along, and this was just a "gender confirmation" appointment- Haha).

Baby Boy Klein will be the first grandson for both families, as both my sister and Sam's sister have two girls each.

(These two ultrasound pictures are from today's appointment- you can see Baby Boy Klein's face)

Third Look at Baby Klein- Nuchal Fold Scan

Today, Sam and I went to have Baby Klein's nuchal fold prenatal scan. This scan helps Dr. Bochner to assess the risk of having Down syndrome, some other chromosomal abnormalities as well as major congenital heart problems. The test uses an ultrasound to measure the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of our baby's neck. Babies with abnormalities tend to accumulate more fluid at the back of their neck during the first trimester, causing this clear space to be larger than average.

Dr. Bochner was very happy with Baby Klein's scan result, although we are waiting for confirmation in 10 days. He said that Baby Klein looks like a "big, perfect & healthy boy(!)", but again, we still have to wait for a final gender confirmation, around weeks 17-20. Needless to say, Sam was extremely happy to hear Dr. Bochner's suspicions about Baby Klein's gender.
